Late last night Blair my roommate and I jumped on my red Vespa having to leave Molly Way home to guard the house and headed to the movies. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" was definitely Curious indeed for both of us last night until we finally were able to put our curiosity behind us long enough to view this beautifully visual display of filmography. I rate this film 4 out of 5 popcorn and definitely a must see for any movie lover. Here is my take on this film.
Life is put into perspective when viewing a film such as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." I wasn't sure what to expect when seeing such a film but was intrigued to see how the aging process could be pulled off to such a degree to make a person age backwards. I knew this film would be a hit or miss but in this viewers opinion it was a hit. This film was like a symphony lulling you to feel the characters every emotion with similarities that pass the boundaries from story to life. It is a story of everyman and reaches to the heart of the viewer to capture a scrapbook styled romance between each of the characters throughout a human life.
David Fincher, who is recognized for his contemporary style directing in such films as Zodiac and Fight Club has taken a turn to accomplish such beauty and warmth in this film. Along with the writing style of Eric Roth who wrote films such as Forest Gump which has a strikingly familiar feel to this film has recreated F._Scott_Fitzgerald's classic short story and has also caused an Oscar buzz in the air. The imagery, lighting, special effects and story telling are reminiscent of old Hollywood and are the high lights of this film.
We are all fascinated with the thought of looking young and if any one person were able to find and distribute the fountain of youth that one person would be the richest person on the plant because though most of us don't really want to admit it we all focus way to much on looks in our own ways. Benjamin Buttons (Brad Pitt) is as much curious as odd to the characters he meets. Born in a body of an 80 year old man he becomes younger as he grows older. He gleans knowledge through his travels and the characters he meets as each one changes a part of his life. His heart belongs to one woman in particular, Daisy (Cate Blanchett), who he loves but struggles with the differences in their lives. The other actors bring life to the film with such scenes of lightning striking a man seven times as he reminds us throughout the film. The unexpected humor about life, love and age was surprising and smart and left me mesmerized.
